National PERMATA Hopes To Get KPM Recognition For PERMATA Arts Certificate

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Culture and Arts Department (JKKN) is attempting to obtain recognition from the Education Ministry (KPM) for the Junior Arts PERMATA Certificate Programme.

National PERMATA Pioneer Project Committee chairman Datuk Seri Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod said the move was to ensure talents that have undergone the PERMATA Arts programme in choir singing, dance and music would not go to waste.

"It means the skills accomplished under PERMATA arts programme can be carried forward together with students' academic achievement when they reach Form Five in the form of a certificate recognised by KPM.

"We in the committee will be discussing with universities for them to further their education in the fields of dance, music and singing," she said when closing the PERMATA Dance and Choir Camp here tonight.

Siti Azizah said it was to enable those taking the programme to obtain a degree and JKKN was now in discussion with KPM on the matter.

Arts PERMATA, inspired by Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor who is also the programme patron, is divided into three branches of arts namely PERMATA Choir and PERMATA Dance coordinated by JKKN while PERMATA Music is coordinated by Istana Budaya.

It is a platform to nurture the natural talents of Malaysian children as the next generation of artistes especially in choir and dance.

In this regard, JKKN with the Prime Minister's Department are acquiring a site to build the PERMATA Arts training centre.

"We need a site to build the training centre, at least to better manage training with a centralised location," Siti Azizah said.

One hundred and sixty nine children participated in the singing, choir and dance skills camp, held from Nov 22 to 29 in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
