This is a form of traditional arts with strong influence of Islam. Gendang Pahang is believed to have initiated by Dato’ Purba Jelai and has passed down for 3 generations.
Gendang Pahang has its own song known as Bujang Hilir. The music is played in weddings and palace ceremonies and also for accompanying silat (Malay martial arts) performances and the Inai Dance (Tarian Inai). Instruments used include one set of drums - one small (Gendang Anak) and one big (Gendang Ibu) as well as a gong. These can be played by both males and females.
